What happened in 1962...

AGRICULTURE

County Farm Bureau furnished fertilizer and atrazine for all demonstrations.

The objective of the fertilizer demonstration plots was to show the importance of soil tests, to know the soil moisture at 5 1/2’ in order to determine the plant population and the use of the proper fertilizer to obtain highest yield.

The following results were obtained on a piece of ground that had been in continuous corn for 20 years.

Check plots        37 bushels
Just row fertilizer   41 bushels
Nitrogen only 90# /Acre      95 bushels
Row + Nitrogen fertilizer     112 bushels

Atrazine demonstration plot on 16 80-rod rows where no cultivations were made showed a plant population of 200 plants over cultivated corn and an increase of 9 bushels per acre over the full treatment of row fertilizer and Nitrogen fertilizer used in fertilizer demonstration plot.
